Severe Acne Treatments
If you have persistent acne that does not respond to topical
treatments, a dermatoligist may recommend acne surgery (drainage) or injecting larger acne cysts with a mild
corticosteroid injection.
Probably the most effective medication for severe acne situations is
the drug Isotretinoin. It is effective since it attacts all the main causes of acne (attacking the four types
of acne which are Acne conglobata, acne fulminans, gram negative folliculitis, and nodulocystic acne), from
excessive oil gland production to clogged skin pores. However, there are many side effects with this
medication, so you should go over it with your doctor to see if it is right for you. Some side effects may
include chest pains, having trouble swallowing, nausea, depression, thinning hair and dry
eyes.
